Suzuki Club UK

Hey guys, names Simon from near Plymouth, Devon and i'm a welder I don't own a Suzuki, but i'm looking to buy one. My friend has just spent a few months getting his on the road and its looking pretty smart, i've drove it a few times and am very surprised as how well it performs! I work in a quarry and drive land rovers every day so thats what i'm comparing it too
I would like a Land Rover to be fair but the cost of a decent one is stupid compared to an SJ. (Hope i don't create a LR vs SJ debate. lol) I went out yesterday with a few guys had a great day so i need to get myself one. My friend has a SJ for sale as he just brought a Defender, its pretty tatty but would be exactly what i would want. He wants £800 for it but i'm not prepared to pay that for it. Needs diff seal and carb seal kit. New prop as we welded it up as his UJ let go and ruined it. So needs a bit of work which i'm prepared to do.

I don't use my Fiesta as my daily and i've had a few bangers, taken them green laning etc. Skoda's dead now and now have a Clio not as bullet proof as the Skoda.

Yes they seem to be a favourite car to modify in some European country! Solid car though, i gave it so much stick.. it would fly through a MOT but it has a running issue, need to spend a day on it working out what it is.

My friend tried the river crossing a while back but failed, idiot for doing it had been raining all week and the car started floating.


I found a picture of the SJ for sale.. He wants £800 for it, and to be honest I have no idea of what it is worth.. but i know it needs work.. but I guess most SJs will do.

We dont have discussions like that in here because landrovers always lose! In fairness later SJ's were made in a landrover factory so you could look at them as baby landrovers some even say landrovers on the vin plate!

I just offered him £450 for it.. he came back with £550 so I guess i could get it for £500.. its the grey one above. Has 1.6 Vitara engine, needs diff seal and some carb seal as its drawing in air. I can do all the work myself/with help from a friend so will only cost me parts. What are your thoughts..

It will need a bit of welding.. someones riveted a plate on you can just see it behind the roll cage to cover a hole from rust. I'd extend the roll cage myself at work I think. He has just text me some more info..

Rock sliders, 2inch lift, body lift, half external cage, big tyres, 1.6 engine and box, different seats, winch bumper. And road tyres and wheels to go with it.

How much are we talking for a new rear prop and diff seal and carb seal kits?

What carb is it? The standard one? If its broke it may well be worth looking to convert it to an Su carb as standard ones aren't known for there reliability, the best place for a new prop is either eBay or scouring the classifieds for breaking SJ's..... in fact I think mike Harris is breaking one at the moment. For diff seal kits I've not seen them you may have to go to Suzuki for the more specialised bits, normal bearing seal suppliers can cater for most of your needs darrell has exploded diagrams and some part numbers. £500? Sounds reasonable does it have tax & Mot?

I'm pretty sure its the standard carb, 1.6 Vitara engine, Yeah i've been reading up on the SU conversion. Bit confused as to which car i need to get one off? Or whatever.

10 Months MOT and tax till Sept. Thanks for your help. I have a portacabin at work with every single part for landrovers aswell as refurbed gearboxes sat around. Would of been ideal if i could pick up a Defender for cheap
