Brake booster differences
The brake booster on my samurai has a spacer behind it which pushes it off the bulkhead. Does anyone know why these are used? Also can they be changed to the other type without the spacer without any problems? The booster as it is hits my inlet manifold but looks like it would clear it if I had it straight back to the bulkhead.

I've had a good stare at this pic. Not sure how it could hit the manifold, are you sure it is the correct servo for the car?
Also top up your brake fluid!

Re: Brake booster differences
its a samurai mate
there are a few different type of brake booster, this is a spanish one. there is a spanish one without the spacer. there is also a japanese one with a round fluid tank which doesn't have the spacer
the spanish ones are interchangeable and im pretty sure the japanese ones are too
looks like an injection manifold? similar to the one on my 16v spare

Cheers Twiss. I will look out for one with out the spacer. It is the original booster, and you are right Twiss, it is an injection manifold from a gti swift that's now in my Lwb.
Re: Brake booster differences
I see no reason why you couldn't remove the spacer and shorten the pushrod?
Vitara's also use the slim servos so you could use one of those.

Re: Brake booster differences
That was my 1st thought but the bolt centres on the booster don't line up. The local breakers had a sj and a few vitaras last time I was there so I will try get there in the weekend for a look.

Re: Brake booster differences
Not unless you need the clearance for a different engine or inlet manifold
